Senior Scientist, Preformulation

Merck Research Laboratories is a true scientific research facility of tomorrow and will take Merck's leading discovery capabilities and world-class small molecule and biologics R&D expertise to create breakthrough science that radically changes the way we approach serious diseases.    The scientist will join Merck's Preformulation Group and support drug product formulation development utilizing state of the art physical characterization tools and techniques to understand the complex interplay of formulation composition and process on product performance. The candidate will work on cross-functional teams and be responsible for conducting physical measurements on a variety of dosage forms and modalities including small molecules, peptides and biologics formulated for oral delivery, injection, inhalation or other novel delivery routes.  Ideal candidates should have a strong foundational knowledge of biophysical characterization, physical organic chemistry, or materials science as well as expertise in a variety of characterization techniques such as X-ray diffraction and scattering, thermal analysis, vibrational spectroscopy (FTIR,Raman, NMR), and imaging techniques.    Qualifications Education Minimum Requirement:         A Master's Degree with a minimum of 4 years' experience or a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or related discipline.   Required Experience and Skills:          Strong written and oral communication skills        Demonstrated knowledge of and proficiency in physical characterization techniques such as X-ray diffraction, thermal analysis, electron microscopy, spectroscopy (IR, Raman, NMR), particle size analysis        Strong academic record including publications in peer reviewed journals and presentations at scientific meetings.        Self-motivated, creative and energetic scientist willing to continually learn and solve complex problems.   Preferred Experience and Skills:        Biophysical Characterization Techniques        Automation and High-Throughput Analysis        Vibrational Spectroscopy with Chemometrics   Your role at Merck is integral to helping the world meet new breakthroughs that affect generations to come, and we're counting on your skills and inventiveness to help make meaningful contributions to global medical advancement. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
