TheAnalytical¬ Research & Development¬ Department within MerckResearch Laboratories¬ is seeking undergraduate and graduate student summerinterns. The summer interns will be exposed to:¬ 

  • Core instrumentation criticalto modern pharmaceutical analysis, process characterization, and drugsubstance physical attributes determination.

  • Fundamentals of¬ analyticaland physical chemistry method development necessary to problem solve as amember of an integrated team in support of the¬ small and largemolecule pipeline at Merck.

  • The¬ Analytical Research& Development Department will expose the intern to various expertgroups in the area of screening and high-throughput analysis, molecularand materials characterization, structural elucidation including high endmass spectrometry and NMR techniques, labeled-compound analysis, and tracemetals analyses, further broadening their experience.¬ 

The intern will also:

  • Attend¬ group meetingsto¬ obtain a wider perspective on the drug development process in thepharmaceutical industry.¬ 

  • Be responsible for accurateelectronic notebook recording of critical experimental details which maybe used in internal or external scientific publications and presentationswhich may follow from the internship.¬ 

We are seeking internswith strong academic performance, communications skills, teamwork, and theability to work in a multi-functional environment.¬ ¬ 

This is a full-time internship position. Housing subsidy is not provided as part of the program and must be funded 100% by the student.



  • Required: Candidates must be currently pursuing a BA/BS/MS/PhD¬ in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Biology, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science,¬ Pharmaceutical Science or a related discipline.¬ 

Required Experience:

  • Candidates must have completed at least (2) years of studies towards a¬ BS/BA degree.¬ ¬ ¬ 

  • Candidates must be available to work full-time for up to (12) weeks beginning in May or June of 2019.

Preferred Experience:¬ ¬ ¬ ¬ ¬ ¬ ¬ ¬ ¬ 

  • Candidates should have basic laboratory skills and research experience

  • Candidates should have experience¬ high performance¬ liquid or gas¬ chromatography using various detection techniques

  • Candidates should have experience with chiral separations, mass spectrometry, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, x-ray powder diffraction,¬ vibrational spectroscopy, or thermal analysis.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
