Reports to the Executive Director of Process Chemistry and Enabling Technologies, of our research division.¬  Responsible for management of approximately 15 scientists. Responsible for the recruiting, evaluation and development of personnel to their full potential.¬  Selects, trains¬  and effectively recommends transfers, merit increases, promotions and closures of personnel under his/her direction within the framework of Company policy.¬  ¬ Contributes and establishes a viable succession plan for key positions within the functional area (scientific and management pathways), including his/her own role.



The incumbent drives scientific excellence and innovation to establish and maintain a world-class synthetic chemistry group, responsible for the invention of novel catalytic methods¬  to support¬  the Merck Pipeline from Discovery to Commercial launch.¬  The leader is responsible for advancing a culture of scientific excellence, identifying emerging trends in catalysis and¬  defining the field through invention of novel catalytic methods driven by fundamental mechanistic principles.¬ ¬ 



Critical tasks involve proactively identifying and developing impactful new catalytic methods that impact synthetic design across Global Chemistry, including invention of novel chemical matter, radiolabeled API synthesis and commercial manufacturing route development.¬  The lead ensures that high throughput experimentation & analysis and predictive chemistry platforms are routinely implemented and leverages tools to enable deep mechanistic understanding of our processes.¬  The lead recommends and maintains external contracts for Process Research & Development, including collaborations, grants, fellowships and consultants in expressed fields of activity. Interaction with the international academic community is expected.¬  ¬ Directs the preparation of and approves disclosures prepared within his/her department to be used as the basis for patent applications, publications and external presentations.




Must be internationally recognized for innovations in synthetic chemistry with a strong track-record of publications in peer-reviewed journals and external presentations.¬  Proactive resource planning, project prioritization, risk assessment strategies and budget management are necessary.




Qualifications

Education Minimum Requirement:¬ 




  • Ph.D. in chemistry, chemical engineering, or related pharmaceutical science is required¬ 



Required Experience and Skills:¬ 




  • 6+ years drug substance development experience and demonstrated ability in leading a development group.¬ 

  • Incumbent must have excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.¬ 

  • Strength in delivering results on firm deadlines.¬ 

  • Strong leadership skills and extensive demonstration of problem-solving and innovation.

  • He/she must be internationally recognized in the pharmaceutical development area, with a strong track record of peer-reviewed publications and external research presentations.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
